LISA 4 Complete SOA Test Suite: Get Started
We've found that our customers face common challenges with software quality. Would you describe your company's technology strategy as one of these?
- SOA initiative: We are adopting an SOA initiative. (AmFam, AA)
- New integration points: We are implementing new integration technologies, such as an ESB message bus, Business Process Management, or Web 2.0. (TDAM)
- Managing Integration testing: We are trying to automate hard-to-test, complex application environments, with new and legacy components. (EAI based, etc, systems - ERCOT, Citi)
- Installing enterprise software: We are currently rolling out packaged enterprise applications from companies like SAP, Oracle or i2. (i2, SAP, Oracle - Lenovo, TI)
- Enterprise testing platform: We are looking for a single testing framework to use across the enterprise. (TIBCO, i2, Sun, etc.)
When does Traditional Testing Fail?
Why are all of these different profiles of customers choosing LISA? There is a fundamental reason why this is happening. All 5 of these types of customers are increasing the pace of change, and increasing their IT complexity by bringing in new technologies. Change and Complexity in your enterprise software creates a business risk that dictates a much stronger Quality strategy if you are going to avoid critical, costly failures. How we traditionally tested in the days of client/server apps, doesn't work anymore - the test process is too brittle to withstand the change and complexity of our new integration approaches.
- Installing enterprise applications: i2 and a Leading High-Tech manufacturer needed to start QA process in unison with development. Complete automated functional & regression testing delivered along side development iterations enabled agility.
- Automating Integration testing: Leading FiServ company was losing 2 weeks of misrouted orders when under load - Need to test the middle tier business logic and integrations (ESB, CORBA, JDBC) that couldn't be tested manually through a UI.
- Implementing New technologies: Through a merger, To p 5 Financial broker went from a 4-week manual testing process (missing the release window) to a 3 day test automation within the release window.
- Adopting SOA initiatives: Leading Airline met 90% of their SOA and proprietary test requirements - and will extend to meet the rest. Enterprise testing platform: Enterprise ISV replaced their own application and services testing platforms, reducing resources by 20%.
Installing enterprise applications: i2 tested an integrated, customizable e-Commerce site, with production monitoring. Every time the product team in Finland and the US created a new feature code drop, QA needed to create a new regression suite rapidly, and then tested the integrated system in production, with highly agile regression and load testing. Since the go live last December, they have had no downtime...
Automating Integration testing : Citi used to test their web UIs and the Broker UI Swing interface manually to functionally validate the system. Under load, their application was misrouting orders at the back end layers at the J2EE server and in the ESB, and the changes were not being refleced in the database. With LISA, they were able to achieve the breadth and depth required for testing all of those integration layers behind the UIs, and spotting those orders. (Breadth, Collaboration, Load Testing)
Implementing new Technologies: TD Ameritrade was trying to become an agile development shop and going through a large M&A process. They needed to merge applications and release applications faster, they automated their testing from 2 weeks of manual testing (and the application couldn't be tested sometimes) and they were able to reduce the testing cycle to 3 days - They did this with our Services (strategy and test augmentation), and our Service and Message Bus testing.
SOA Initiative: For American airlines, we met 90% of their SOA and proprietary testing needs, when they expected 50% coverage at best - the LISA Extension Kit made it possible for them to extend to test many untestable systems.
Enterprise Testing platform: TIBCO brought iTKO in because it was to expensive to write their own testing platform - they would have had to expand the team and support another unique product for testing - with LISA they get native testing of TIBCO in their own development process and in the field - and their dev teams can focus on value generating activities.
So what can we do about Quality in your terms?
At iTKO, we have a complete strategy around how this will work. Aside from LISA, we will work with you to ensure best practices, and help you achieve successful test adoption.
