One of the largest electric grids in the United States, this company provides electricity to more than 3 million homes and businesses, over approximately 120,000 miles of power lines, acting as the service arm for several retail electric providers.
There is a technology transformation underway in the utilities industry. Traditional delivery simply required one-way power generation and transmission to consumers. However, these existing solutions could no longer provide the performance, scalability, or energy efficiencies required in today's energy conscious market. Regulatory mandates for a technology transformation ensued, as a U.S. Department of Energy study calculated that IT modernization through "Smart Grid" capabilities would save up to $117 billion in energy costs over the next 20 years.
